Smart Surge Protection Monitoring Devices from Citel improves power system protection

Smart Surge Protection Monitoring Devices from Citel improves power system protection.

Available from Specialist Distributor Switchtec is the Citel LSCM-D, an innovative smart device for monitoring the state of SPD’s within a power system.

Designed for use within a Lightning protection system where overvoltage and surge protection devices are used, the Smart SPD monitoring device is a cutting-edge solution that allows users to continuously monitor, record and analyse the performance of surge protection devices (SPDs) in real-time. By providing early warnings of potential issues, the device enables quick and effective action to prevent damage to power systems and ensure continuous power supply.

The LSCM-D Lightning Counter is designed to detect and record the impulse current conducted by the down conductor of the Lightning Protection System or by the ground wire of a protective Surge protection device.

This Smart SPD monitoring device is equipped with advanced features such as remote access, predictive analytics, and automated alerts, allowing for quick and easy monitoring of SPDs from any location. The device also features a user-friendly interface that provides detailed information on the status of each SPD, including voltage, current, and leakage current.

The unit has a wide surge current detection range from -0.3/25KA or 1/50KA @ 10/350µs and -0.3/50KA or 1/1000KA @ 8/20µs. Peak current and time stamping recordings of the surge currents are saved and uses RS485 communication interface / MODBUS protocol.

This device is an innovative product within the Lightning protection industry, providing real-time monitoring and analysis that can significantly reduce the risk of surge damage and downtime. This device will help customers improve their power system performance and actively reduce maintenance costs.

In addition to its advanced features, the Smart SPD monitoring device is also designed with durability and reliability in mind. It is built to withstand harsh environments and extreme temperatures, ensuring that it can perform optimally.

The LSCM-D has been tested in Citel’s own internal laboratories, where they can test up to 240kA, and is also recognised by external laboratories. Manufactured in accordance to EN 62561-6 and is CE and UKCA approved.
