High Time To Switch To LED

In order to fight climate change and dangerous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, mercury-containing and inefficient lamps will be banned throughout  Europe this year. There are three dates to keep in mind for various product groups, starting end of February 2023 and the last one being in September 2023. Particularly affected from this ban are fluorescent lamps. So, it’s about time to switch to energy-efficient, future-proof LED technology.

Based on the Ecodesign Regulation 2019/2020 (Single Lighting Regulation SLR) and the revised ROHS DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU with restrictions of exceptions for the use of mercury in light sources, several lighting products may no longer be placed on the market in the UK this year. Starting February 25, 2023, this applies to circular T5 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps with plug-in bases (CFLni). Linear T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps will follow from August 25, and Halogen pins (G4, GY6.35, G9) on September 1.

Depending on their individual applications, there are four options for customers: As a direct replacement for fluorescent tubes on CCG or compatible ECG, they can choose from a wide range of LED tubes in different wattages, light colours and grades. If retrofits are not available, conversion kits for converting LED tube on mains voltage or the LED Tube External System to convert a dimmable DALI installation to dimmable LED technology. Existing T5 and T8 metal louver luminaires can easily be updated with the LINEAR MAGNETIC BATTEN T5 upgrade kit. If none of the above applies and new installations are needed, e.g. for new projects in offices, industry or parking applications, LEDVANCE offers a wide range of innovative LED luminaires.
