DOLD PI9260 Solid State Contactor

DOLD

Switching high-current two-phase and three-phase loads reliably is a common challenge in industrial automation. Frequent load switching can cause contact wear, arcing and mechanical fatigue in conventional contactors, increasing maintenance demands and potentially affecting system availability.

The DOLD PI9260 solid-state contactor from the POWERSWITCH series addresses this challenge by combining the performance advantages of solid-state switching with the functionality engineers expect from a conventional contactor.

This makes it particularly relevant for applications that depend on reliable high-cycle switching, including heating and cooling systems, valves, lighting, packaging machinery, extrusion equipment, soldering lines, food processing machinery and other industrial processes.

For smaller loads, compact solid-state relays can provide an effective solution. However, larger industrial loads require a device capable of switching higher currents in demanding two-phase and three-phase applications where engineers would traditionally use an electromechanical contactor.

Wear-Free Switching for High-Current Three-Phase Loads

The DOLD PI9260 solid-state contactor supports demanding industrial applications requiring reliable switching of resistive and inductive loads.

Available in both 2-phase and 3-phase controlled versions, the PI9260 supports load currents of up to 60 A per pole, depending on the selected variant and operating conditions. This makes it a suitable solid-state alternative for higher-power applications that traditionally rely on conventional contactors.

Designed as an electronic alternative to electromechanical switching devices, the PI9260 operates without mechanical contacts. As a result, there is no contact bounce, no arcing and no contact wear during switching.

Efficient Thermal Management

Effective heat dissipation is essential when switching higher currents with solid-state technology.

The PI9260 incorporates DCB (Direct Copper Bonding) technology to optimise heat transfer between the semiconductor components and cooling surface. This supports reliable operation at higher load currents while contributing to the device’s robustness and long operational life.

dold Depending on the application, engineers can mount the relay directly onto an existing cooling surface, provided the installation allows sufficient ventilation. For applications needing dedicated thermal management, DOLD can supply the PI9260 with appropriately sized heat sinks matched to the load current and ambient temperature conditions.

This simplifies thermal design and helps support reliable operation. DIN rail mounted heat sink options also support straightforward integration into control cabinets and automation systems.

Low-Noise Switching with Strong EMC Performance

The PI9260 switches at zero crossing, helping to minimise switching transients and reduce electrical interference during operation.

dold This contributes to low interference emission and high immunity to interference radiation, both of which are increasingly important in modern industrial automation environments containing sensitive electronic equipment.

For installations where switching noise, electromagnetic interference or mechanical contact wear can negatively affect performance, the PI9260 provides a robust solid-state alternative to conventional electromechanical contactors.

Heavy-Duty Example: Extrusion Machines

Extrusion processes rely on tightly controlled temperatures to maintain product quality, process stability and production efficiency.

dold The control system switches heating elements frequently to maintain stable thermal conditions across different machine zones. The PI9260 provides fast, repeatable switching performance for multi-phase heater loads, helping maintain consistent process temperatures without the mechanical wear associated with conventional contactors.

This supports stable temperature control in high-cycle operation, while reducing maintenance interventions and improving system availability over the machine’s operating life.
