University of Birmingham was founded in 1900 and over the years its campus has grown to 672 acres. As a leading Russell Group university, it welcomes more than 30,000 students each year.

Stoke On Trent based MEB Total has carried out a wide range of M&E and building services at the university for almost 20 years.

This included M&E refurbishment and replacement of the lighting for Shackleton Hall, which comprises the kitchen, canteen bar and restaurant facilities for students.

MEB Total Contracts manager Keith Mulley chose around 100 NVC DALLAS stylish and robust IK06 surface/suspended LED luminaires to replace existing, increasingly failing, linear fittings and suspended pendent fittings.

The DALLAS fittings were suspended in some areas and ceiling mounted in others and in the walkways these versatile luminaires were recessed.

Keith Mulley says: “The support provided by NVC was brilliant. This, backed by the quality of the fittings, the 7-year extensive warranty and ease of installation of the products made them the ideal choice for this project.”

In addition to improving the light levels and reducing the maintenance required to replace failing fittings, installing NVC’s DALLAS luminaires has reduced energy usage for the University too.
