Brymec copper press and valve systems have been supplied, along with technical guidance, to equip the plant room of a 550 room student accommodation block with a robust, high-performance water supply system.

The Task

Bournemouth University was at the start of a major transformation, expanding its student intake and upgrading its facilities.  The modern student accommodation, located at the heart of the university’s campus, will home 550 students in clusters of ensuite bedroom apartments and studio flats, all served by full modern kitchen and communal areas.

The university had appointed mechanical and electrical engineers, William Coates, to complete the installation of the water supply systems.

The Challenge

The project consultants and contractors were tasked with a unique challenge; they had to develop the new part of the university campus in time for the Autumn semester, placing the project on a strict schedule.

The development site was constrained in size and location. To negotiate the unusual shape of the site, the team needed to use a selection of products and systems that could adapt to the requirements of the project.

The Solution

Brymec was appointed by William Coates to supply product and technical expertise on the landmark £31 million Bailey Point student accommodation project. With a long history of successful projects, Brymec was more than ready to tackle this next challenge.

When it comes to successful development projects, the on-time delivery of product is essential for success, especially on this strict schedule. William Coates and Brymec joined forces to ensure just that, on their development project at Bailey Point.

Working with the onsite team, William Coates liaised with their dedicated account manager to make sure all products arrived on schedule as the development took shape. All orders were delivered via the fleet of Brymec vans from one central location, helping with the carbon footprint of the project.

The Products

The Brymec Copper Press System was recommended as best for the job due to its performance ability.  The two-point press system on each fitting removes the need for more time-intensive jointing methods to be used. The system is also backed up by a built-in leak detector, providing extra system protection also with the added benefit of being WRAS Approved.

Brymec Cast Iron Valves were also used throughout the system. WRAS approved Brymec Lever Ball valves were fitted to the system to help the facilities management team maintain and control the finished water supply system.

The Result

Working together with William Coates, Brymec ensured all products were suitable for the purpose and met the requirements of the project.

The end result showed completion of the 550 ensuite bedroom apartments & student flats, alongside an entirely new plant room, all connected by Brymec’s unique Copper Press system that could be easily controlled by Brymec valves.

With close relationships developed, orders were delivered as scheduled, allowing for the project to run smoothly and on-time. By the Autumn semester, new term students could enjoy their new accommodation and settle in without any issues.
