King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is Saudi Arabia's third-largest airport and occupies an area of 105 square kilometers. Because of its proximity to the cities of Mecca and Medina, the airport is the gateway to Saudi Arabia for a large number of visitors from around the world. In 2010 alone, KAIA serviced more than 17 million passengers.

KAIA Terminal 1 is estimated to be one of the largest terminals in the world. The long-term goal is to handle more than 80 million passengers per year by 2035 to keep pace with the growing demand for air travel and plans for attracting more tourists.

The ambitious expansion project of King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, worth $7.2bn is now in full swing.

The aspiring project that sits on a total land area equivalent to over 7,000 football pitches will be completed in three phases with the final phase to be completed by 2035.

The Airport will also feature our Scope Ceiling product, which has clean, elegant lines that are harmonizing with the design of the Airport, and it is also very easy and simple to install. As this product has many beam angle options, it is ideal to solve the lighting challenges of a complex space as a busy Airport.

Our last but probably the most important architectural lighting product for King Abdulaziz International Airport is the Concord Ascent Downlight. As one of our most popular products, it was a straight forward choice for the airport. The Ascent is the result of our long heritage of Downlights, as Concord was the original designer and manufacturer of architectural downlights and had a registered patent on the term "downlighter", which lasted from 1966 to 2006. The items selected for the airport boast high luminous Efficacy, up to 113 Lumens per Watt, which is exceptional for this application. Beyond energy efficiency, the product also features high lighting quality and long lifetime, making it the ideal choice for this project.

Sylvania provided an indoor lighting solution for the entire Terminal Concord downlights range and Lumistrip LED strip for the Front of House and Sylvania weatherproof and office range for the Back of House facilities.
