Heating Cable suitable for installation under hot asphalt

11-03-2014

Heat Mat, the underfloor heating and frost protection specialists, have added a unique new hot asphalt cable to their Ice & Snow system portfolio in response to industry demand.

These new cables can withstand temperatures up to 200oC making them suitable for installations involving the pouring of asphalt. They are ideal for use in the construction of new driveways, ramps, parking or pedestrian zones or projects where areas are being resurfaced.

Heat Mat are currently specifying the cables for schemes throughout the UK including a variety of car park ramps from multistory to parking bays.

Two different cables are available:

  • HTC-30W-1400 Hot Asphalt Cable
    30W/m 230V 47m with a total output of 1400W RTP: £225.00
  • HTC-30W-3350 Hot Asphalt Cable
    30W/m 230V 112m with a total output of 3350W RTP: £425.00

These strong cables feature specialist high temperature insulation on the exterior that allows them to cope with the temperatures of the hot asphalt when it is poured. Temperatures of asphalt are usually between 180 -200oC.

To achieve a heated drive or walkway where asphalt is going to be laid, a standard cable would need to be installed underneath a protective covering such as concrete before the asphalt finish can be poured, because standard cables cannot cope with the higher temperature.

By not having to install this additional layer costs are reduced and the heating cable can be laid closer to the final surface, ensuring a faster reacting system. Heat Mat has introduced this cable to offer a competitive solution for installations involving asphalt. Despite being more expensive to produce and purchase per unit, the reduced installation cost makes these exterior heating cables a cost-effective option for driveway, walkway or ramp heating especially for new build and car park construction.

Hot asphalt cables are ideal for installation beneath driveways, carparks, disabled access ramps, public areas or access roads.
