Carbon footprint survey
09-06-2010
Mechanical and electrical contractors are being urged to take part in a survey developed by The Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA), with the support of the ECA and HVCA. The survey is designed to help develop common criteria for measuring the carbon footprint of construction projects and to help produce widely accepted methods for such measurements.
Developed in response to the increasing demands from clients and principal contractors for contractors to provide information on the planned carbon footprint of their contribution to the construction process. “Feedback from contractors confirms that the number - and diversity - of these requirements/ enquiries is increasing. These naturally include fossil energy use (such as site energy use or transport) but may also include the ‘embodied carbon’ in installed and other construction materials,” says CIRIA.
The first stage of the programme involves gathering information on current practice across the construction industry.
The survey will close on the 30th June, and those wishing to participate should visit www.carbonconstruct.com/survey.htm
