CIBSE supports DEC rollout

The call to roll out display energy certificates (DECs) to more buildings has received the support of CIBSE, following an analysis of the first 45,000 DECs and the benchmarks used to calculate DEC ratings.

"There is now a clear industry consensus around making more use of Display Energy Certificates to identify potential energy and cost savings," said Hywel Davies, CIBSE's technical director.

CIBSE has also published a report, entitled 'Carbon Reductions in Existing Non-Domestic Buildings', in which it calls for a ‘soft start’ to the introduction of non-domestic DECs, allowing for data collection and further benchmark refinement before the results are disclosed and displayed.
