Turkish cable manufacturer recalls faulty cable

12-07-2010

Following the suspension of Atlas Kablo’s product certification licence by BASEC, the Approved Cables Initiative (ACI) has advised that more than 14 million metres of cabling is set to be withdrawn from the UK market place.

Following the suspension by BASEC (British Approvals Service for Cables) on 17th May of the Turkish cable manufacturer’s product certification licence Atlas Kablo is arranging for all affected cabling (PVC flexible cable type HO5VV-F ) to be recovered from the supply chain and scrapped.

Whilst millions of metres have already been found in the supply chain it is unknown how much has been installed. ACI advises that all cables not installed should be returned to the place of purchase and further guidance should be sought from a qualified electrical authority if cable has already been installed.

ACI is an industry wide working group addressing the issue of unsafe, non-approved and counterfeit cable entering the UK marketplace. The organisation has industry and regulator support and is taking a proactive and hard hitting approach to educate the electrical supply chain. For further information visit www.aci.org.uk or call the ACI on 0208 946 6978.
